Cladding innovation driven by mining boom - Stramit Building Products Media Release Cladding innovation driven by mining boom - Stramit Building Products Media Release

The latest development from Stramit Building Products demonstrates that innovation means not just new products but the ability to modify existing products quickly in response to market demands.

In this case, a joining system had to be added to a standard Stramit® wall cladding product to meet a need created by the mining sector.

One of the consequences of the resources boom is a huge increase in demand for transportable accommodation units (SPQs) which are factory-built and delivered to site complete.

In Western Australia, the preferred wall cladding is a low, square rib profile, similar to Stramit Minirib® wall cladding.

However, they also prefer cladding sheets with interlocking joins on the sides, rather than sheets that simply overlap. This not only creates a joint with greater integrity, but helps the manufacturers to clad the units much faster.

To compete in this market, Stramit had to modify the Minirib® product quickly and, if possible, create a competitive advantage.

Stramit’s R&D centre in Sydney quickly designed and developed a joining system called Miniseam™ for the Minirib® cladding that would meet the needs of the customers, as well as the warranty requirements of the steel supplier, BlueScope.

The ability to offer a warranty on the join as well as the cladding gives Stramit a durability advantage, while manufacturers of SPQs have a system that speeds up the cladding process and provides a robust and elegant sheet connection.

Note: Stramit Minirib® Cladding with Miniseam™ Join is only avialable in WA
